Rockets fired across border by Cambodia hit family's home 'in war crime'
This is the shocking moment rockets struck a family's home as Cambodia launched artillery at civilian areas in Thailand.
CCTV footage shows artillery blasting a single-storey house in Sa Kaeo province, sending terrified pet dogs scurrying in panic, on December 22.
Authorities said at least six people, including a police officer and a local who lost both legs, were injured as the attack hit residential areas.
Homeowner Anupong Rattanawan, 34, said his father, uncle, and pet dogs were safe.
He said: 'This incident is horrible, and I do not know if I can ever return to live here because it has left a wound in my heart that can never be forgotten.
‘The violence and cruelty of Cambodia have made us too afraid to go back, despite our intention to renovate the house.
‘We spent our entire life savings of 1.5 million baht to build it so our child could live comfortably.
‘The house was only completed this past January, but today it is completely destroyed. Not even clothes are left.
‘The most important thing was my child's duck bathtub, which she was very attached to, and I could not even take it out for her.'
The Thai and Cambodian militaries were set to meet on December 24 for peace talks after US President Donald Trump's bungled ceasefire attempt.
Territorial clashes flared up earlier this year before a brief ceasefire, but started again this month when Cambodian troops are said to have fired on a Thai engineering team building an access road in a disputed border area.
In the most recent battles, at least 23 Thai soldiers and one civilian have been killed.
In Cambodia, the number of military fatalities is believed to be much higher, though regime chiefs have not revealed the actual figure.
Around 600,000 people have been displaced on both sides of the border.
Cambodia's assault has largely been wayward, unguided rockets fired indiscriminately into Thai territory, including the July 24 attacks that killed 14 people and injured dozens more.
In response, Thailand has removed Cambodians from villages encroaching on its territory and used precision drone strikes and fighter jet strikes on military sites.
Former Khmer Rouge henchman and Cambodian dictator Hun Sen has repeatedly claimed that he wants peace and that Thailand is the aggressor.
Thai officials claim the ongoing border confrontations are a threat to national security, and the areas must be secured.
