Spain: Waterspout Looms As Violent Storm Strikes Puerto De Mazarrón
Puerto de Mazarrón, Spain - December 28, 2025 Video filmed by X user Empar Arnau on December 28, 2025, around 5:40 PM shows a powerful waterspout over the Mediterranean Sea during a severe thunderstorm. Recorded from an elevated residential viewpoint, the footage captures a tall, narrow, sharply defined funnel descending from a dark storm base. As it reaches the sea, the vortex whips up a broad plume of white spray and violently churned water, underscoring its strong rotation beneath heavy gray skies. Rooftops, palm trees, and coastal buildings appear in the foreground, while a rough sea and distant land line the horizon. The waterspout stays offshore in this recording and does not make landfall during the clip. The video caption reads: "Tornadoes in Puerto de Mazarrón." The footage documents one of several waterspouts that formed offshore during an extreme storm that afternoon, with eyewitnesses reporting up to seven visible at the same time. The event unfolded while red and orange weather alerts were active across Murcia. At least two waterspouts later came ashore in the port and promenade area. Violent winds flung large debris, including 6-meter metal roof sheets, terrace furniture, awnings, sails, boat components, and fishing nets, sending some items as far as 1.5 kilometers inland. Damage was reported to restaurant and bar terraces and roofs, street lamps, marina yachts and boats, and other urban fixtures. Cars were displaced, including one pushed 10 meters into nets, though the driver was unharmed. Eyewitnesses described "absolute madness," said objects flew "like paper," and recalled an apocalyptic roar as people ran in panic. No injuries were reported, but significant material damage hit waterfront businesses and infrastructure in the Costa Calida resort.
