3. VARIOUS OF 5-YEAR-OLD ELIN ABU HEDDAF WITH KIDNEY CANCER UNDER TREATMENT / HER FATHER AND HEALTH WORKERS ATTENDING TO HER / ELIN PAINTING ON BED

4. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) FATHER OF ELIN, EYSAR ABU HEDDAF SAYING:

"I am the father of Elin, a sick child who has survived repeated attacks. On August 13, 2025, my wife and my young daughter—who was only two years and seven months old—were killed in an attack. Elin witnessed the deaths of her mother and siblings with her own eyes. Due to this severe shock, she is now suffering from acute psychological trauma.
These events have worsened her pre-existing medical condition. She is currently in critical condition, suffering from cancer in both kidneys, high renal pressure, and masses on both the aorta and a nerve. Medical examinations, including imaging and kidney function tests, led to an urgent surgical intervention to drain her kidneys and reduce the pressure. This underscores the extreme danger of her illness. We are now awaiting approval for Elin to be transferred abroad, as she requires specialized treatment available only in a hospital outside the Gaza Strip."

9. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) MOTHER OF LANA ZURUB, DIAGNOSED WITH FANCONI SYNDROME, HADEEL ZURUB SAYING:

"Unfortunately, our daughter is suffering from Fanconi syndrome, as well as an enlargement of her liver and spleen. She suffers from bodily weakness, is unable to walk properly, and has developed tumors affecting her spleen—all a direct result of the conditions caused by the war. Her health continues to deteriorate, and she faces the threat of serious complications. Regrettably, her brother suffered from the same illness, and we tragically lost him due to the war.
Her mother has remained by her side in the hospital every day for the past two months. We have reached a point where even basic necessities are lacking. We have endured sleepless nights, struggling continuously to survive these circumstances."

15. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) FATHER OF 4.5-YEAR-OLD JINAN ABU AMRA, TAMIR ABU AMRA SAYING:

"My name is Tamir Abu Amra, and I am the father of Jinan Abu Amra. On August 13, while we were in our tent in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, we were suddenly caught in an intense bombardment near the shore. As we gathered the children to protect them, naval shells began exploding nearby without warning. Shrapnel scattered everywhere, and although we tried to flee, the area was quickly sealed off as panic spread.
In the chaos, I discovered my daughter had been severely injured. She was bleeding heavily and lost consciousness as we carried her to find help. At the hospital, we learned she had shrapnel wounds and significant internal bleeding around her chest and lungs. Her condition worsened rapidly, requiring her to be transferred to intensive care.
Following multiple emergency surgeries and several months in the hospital, the medical staff informed us her condition remained critical—a situation they say is becoming tragically common. After three and a half months, she showed slight improvement and was discharged, but she still requires continuous medical monitoring and specialized care."

KHAN YOUNIS, GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - DEC. 27: Hospitals across the Gaza Strip remain overwhelmed with children unable to receive life-saving care, despite a ceasefire agreement reached nearly three months ago that was intended to reopen border crossings and facilitate the entry of medicine and food.

At Nasser Hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis, the pediatric ward is at capacity with patients suffering from severe trauma and chronic conditions. Hospital staff report that the anticipated improvements in medical supply chains following the ceasefire have largely failed to materialize.

Among the patients is 5-year-old Elin Abu Heddaf. Her father, Eysar Abu Heddaf, said Elin is suffering from cancer in both kidneys and masses on the aorta and nerves. The child is also dealing with severe psychological trauma after witnessing an attack on Aug. 23, 2025, that killed her mother and 2-year-old sister.

"Medical examinations, including imaging and kidney function tests, led to an urgent surgical intervention to drain her kidneys and reduce the pressure. This underscores the extreme danger of her illness," Abu Heddaf said. "We are now awaiting approval for Elin to be transferred abroad."

Physicians at the hospital also noted a surge in cases of enlarged livers and respiratory failure. Hadeel Zurub, whose daughter Lana is hospitalized with Fanconi syndrome — a rare kidney disorder — said medicine shortages have caused her daughter’s health to deteriorate. Lana now suffers from liver and spleen enlargement and requires constant oxygen support.

"Regrettably, her brother suffered from the same illness, and we tragically lost him due to the war," Zurub said.

The humanitarian crisis persists despite the cessation of major hostilities. Tamir Abu Amra said his 4-year-old daughter, Jinan, was injured on Dec. 13, 2025, when naval fire struck the al-Mawasi area — a zone previously designated as safe.

According to the father, Red Cross examinations found bleeding near Jinan's heart and lungs. Subsequent scans at Nasser Hospital revealed a spinal cord fracture that has left the child bedridden. Abu Amra joined other families in calling for international authorities to expedite medical evacuations, noting that his daughter was wounded weeks after the ceasefire was signed.

The situation could have serious consequences, particularly for patients in need of emergency surgical intervention and specialized medical care.

The Israeli army has repeatedly violated the ceasefire deal that took effect on Oct. 10.

At least 405 Palestinians have been killed and over 1,100 others injured in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire, according to Palestinian figures.

The Israeli army has killed nearly 71,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured over 171,000 others in attacks in Gaza since October 2023.
