KARS, TÜRKİYE - DEC. 29, 2025: A snow sculpture was completed on Tuesday, Dec. 30, in the eastern Turkish city of Kars to commemorate the 111th anniversary of the Battle of Sarikamish during World War I.

The sculpture will be displayed during commemoration events, to be held on Jan. 3–4, marking the battle between the Ottoman and Russian Empires in the Sarikamis district.

The artwork symbolizes the soldiers who were martyred 111 years ago in the Allahuekber Mountains, many of whom froze to death due to harsh winter conditions.

Tens of thousands of Ottoman soldiers, led by Minister of War Enver Pasha, died during the battle, which lasted from December 1914 to January 1915, when Ottoman forces launched an offensive near the eastern city of Kars to liberate territories under Russian occupation.
