Drowning Dutch female tourist rescued on beach in Thailand
A drowning Dutch tourist was rescued from a beach in Thailand.
The female holidaymaker, aged around 60, was swimming off Dongtan Beach in Pattaya when she reportedly suffered cramps at around noon on December 28.
Beachgoers plunged into the water when they saw the woman go under the waves.
They pulled her back to the beach unconscious, where lifeguards performed CPR. Medics later arrived to take her to Pattaya Hospital.
Lifeguard Thongchai Thiangcharoen said: 'The tourist was swimming near Khong Dong Tan Beach when she suddenly suffered a cramp and began to drown. A good Samaritan managed to pull her to shore in time.'
Beach drownings are a recurring safety concern in Thailand, especially in tourist hotspots like Phuket, Pattaya, and Krabi. The deaths often attributed to strong rip currents, lack of swimming skills, and disregard for warning signages.
The waters are most dangerous during the country's rainy monsoon season, when red flags are placed in beaches to warn of dangerous sea conditions.
