The cause of the disruption has not yet been identified. However, Greek public broadcaster ERT reported that an alternative communication system was put in place, allowing some flights to depart.
ERT added that a comprehensive joint investigation is underway, with the participation of the country’s civil aviation authority and other relevant bodies.
According to the broadcaster, only about 35 overflights had been permitted so far, while most flights to and from Greece were diverted to airports in neighboring Türkiye.
Meanwhile, Greece’s major telecommunications company OTE said the disruption was not caused by a technical failure in circuits it owns, contradicting earlier media reports that had attributed the problem to a circuit malfunction.
