Lebanon - January 06, 2026 The Israeli military carried out airstrikes targeting military infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah and Hamas in several areas across Lebanon, according to an official statement released on Sunday. The strikes targeted weapons storage facilities and military structures, both above and below ground, which Israeli officials said were used by Hezbollah to plan and rebuild capabilities for attacks against Israeli forces and Israel. In addition, sites used by Hamas for the production of weapons in southern Lebanon were also struck, with Israeli authorities stating these facilities supported the group’s military buildup and planned attacks. According to the Israeli military, the targeted sites were located within civilian areas, which it described as an example of armed groups operating from within populated zones. The military said measures were taken prior to the strikes to reduce the risk of civilian harm, including advance warnings to residents in the affected areas. Israeli officials stated that the presence and activity of armed groups at these locations constituted a violation of existing understandings between Israel and Lebanon and posed a security threat to Israel.
