BETHLEHEM, WEST BANK, PALESTINE - JAN. 6: Orthodox Christians marked Epiphany on Tuesday, Jan. 6, by holding religious celebrations around the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, where Christians believe Jesus Christ was born.

The celebrations were also attended by Theophilos III, the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem.

The Epiphany day marks the beginning of Christmas celebrations by most Orthodox Christians on Jan. 7, later than on Dec. 25 – the date for many other Christians – due to different traditional calendars.

It is one of the Orthodox Church’s most important holidays, commemorating Jesus’ baptism in the River Jordan.
