4. ISRAELI SECURITY FORCES ON SCENE JERUSALEM - JAN. 6: Thousands of ultra-Orthodox Jews, known as Haredim, staged a protest against mandatory military service in West Jerusalem on Tuesday, Jan. 6.

Demonstrators gathered in the Bar-Ilan Street area, following calls by several rabbis, including Torah school rabbi Moshe Tzedaka.

Protesters chanted slogans opposing compulsory enlistment and played religious songs during the demonstration.

Some demonstrators blocked roads by lighting fires, while Israeli security forces were deployed in the area.

The protest took place peacefully under police presence.
