Dramatic footage has emerged from Vietnam showing a boat crashing into a bridge after being swept away by the flood waters of typhoon Haiyan.

The mineral mining boat capsized after it was swept away by rapid currents in the city of Móng Cái in the north of Vietnam. The incident is understood to have been caused by typhoon Haiyan as it devastated the surrounding region.

Passers by gathered to watch and take photographs as the metal boat was seen floating out of control on the swollen river towards the bridge.

The vessel was unable to stop in time, and the brown flood waters were so high there was no room for it to pass under the bridge.

The force of the collision forced the boat to buckle and tip onto its side.
