Aussies swelter on Bondi Beach as record heat wave sends temperatures soaring
Australians sweltered on Bondi Beach as a record heat wave pushed temperatures to extreme levels.
Heatwave alerts were issued across New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, and the Northern Territory, with parts of each state expected to reach at least 40 degrees Celsius by the end of the week.
Footage captured by Bruce Farquhar shows holidaymakers at Bondi Beach, the site of a mid-December shooting that left at least 15 people dead.
Bruce said: 'I visited Bondi Beach today. Everything felt much closer to the shooters than I had imagined, including the children's playground that would usually be full of people.'
Authorities warned residents and tourists in affected areas to prepare for scorching daytime temperatures ranging from the high 30s to mid-40s, with nights remaining only slightly cooler in the high 20s.
Melbourne is forecast to reach 38 degrees Celsius on Friday, while Sydney faces its hottest day on Saturday, with the city expected to hit 39 degrees Celsius.
