MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, US - JAN. 9: Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in downtown Minneapolis on Friday evening, Jan. 9, to protest the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old mother during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation.
Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, was killed when an ICE agent opened fire while she was seated in the driver's seat of her vehicle on Wednesday, Jan, 7.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage and renewed scrutiny of federal immigration enforcement operations.
The Department of Homeland Security described Good as a "rioter" who was obstructing officers and attempting to use her vehicle against agents enforcing immigration laws. Federal officials stated the shooting occurred in self-defense after Good allegedly attempted to strike officers with her car.
Friday's demonstration drew large crowds to downtown Minneapolis, with protesters carrying banners and placards denouncing the killing. The situation intensified as some demonstrators appeared to breach the doors of a hotel where federal agents are reportedly staying.
Minneapolis police declared an unlawful assembly late Friday, leading to multiple arrests. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety confirmed early Saturday that state law enforcement agencies assisted in clearing the scene.
Officers worked to disperse the crowd amid flashing police lights, while some remaining protesters continued banging drums and blowing whistles. Others knelt on the ground in a show of resistance.
The Trump administration has deployed approximately 2,000 federal agents from ICE and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to Minneapolis as part of expanded enforcement efforts targeting undocumented immigrants.
Vigils and protests have been reported in multiple cities across the United States in response to Good's death.
