MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, US - JAN. 9: Protests continued in the U.S city of Minneapolis on Friday evening, Jan. 9, following the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old woman during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation, with demonstrators gathering outside a hotel housing ICE officials.

Renee Nicole Macklin Good, a Minneapolis resident, was killed Wednesday, Jan. 7, during an ICE enforcement operation in Minnesota.

Federal officials stated that Good attempted to strike officers with her vehicle, leading an agent to discharge their firearm in what authorities described as self-defense.

The incident has drawn significant public outcry, with protesters marching through the city carrying banners and placards.

Among the demonstrators, members of a group known as the Handmaid Army appeared dressed in costumes from the dystopian novel and television series, "The Handmaid's Tale," wearing red robes and white bonnets.

The costumed protesters say that they used the imagery as a visual statement against what they characterize as growing authoritarianism in the country, symbolizing resistance to current government policies.

The shooting occurred amid expanded immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota. The Trump administration has deployed approximately 2,000 federal agents from ICE and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to Minneapolis as part of intensified enforcement efforts targeting undocumented immigrants.
