MEXICO CITY, MEXICO – JANUARY 10: Mexican activists and solidarity groups marched Saturday from the Angel of Independence along Reforma Avenue to the Hemiciclo a Juárez monument, rallying under the banner of an “Anti-Imperialist Day” in support of Venezuela.

Demonstrators carried flags and banners and chanted slogans accusing Washington of interference in Latin America, with several chants directed at U.S. President Donald Trump.

The protest came a week after the Trump administration launched an operation that captured and arrested Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on January 3, 2026, an action that has triggered sharp international reactions and competing demonstrations across the region.

In the days following his arrest, Maduro appeared in federal court in New York and pleaded not guilty to U.S. charges, according to U.S. court reporting by international media.

Washington has framed its Venezuela policy as part of a broader push to reshape the country’s political and economic future.

On January 10, Trump signed an executive order aimed at shielding Venezuelan oil revenues held in U.S. accounts from being seized by creditors, as the administration presses ahead with its post-Maduro plans.
