10. ANCHORED POLICE BOAT BEING SHAKEN BY WAVES CANAKKALE, TÜRKİYE - JANUARY 8: Maritime traffic through the Dardanelles Strait in Türkiye has been temporarily halted in both directions due to severe weather conditions, authorities announced Thursday, Jan. 8.

The Dardanelles Vessel Traffic Services Directorate ordered the suspension after a powerful storm that began intensifying Wednesday evening caused a significant increase in sea current speeds, making navigation unsafe.

Ship captains approaching from both the northern and southern entrances of the strategic waterway were notified via radio broadcast that the strait is closed to two-way transit passages until conditions improve.

The adverse weather has also disrupted local ferry operations.

The Dardanelles Strait, connecting the Aegean Sea to the Sea of Marmara, is one of the world's busiest maritime passages and serves as a critical shipping route between the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions.
