ADANA, TÜRKİYE - JAN. 12: The lagoons of Cukurova Delta in southern Türkiye continue to serve as critical feeding and breeding grounds for numerous bird species throughout winter months, experts say.
Located in Adana province where major bird migration routes intersect, the delta functions as an essential stopover point for migratory birds traveling between the northern and southern hemispheres.
The region comprises four main lagoons: Akyatan, Tuzla, and Agyatan in Karatas district, and Yumurtalik Lagoon in Yumurtalik district. These wetlands provide crucial opportunities for birds to replenish energy reserves and reproduce.
The lagoons support rich biodiversity, hosting both migratory and resident species. Among the notable species found in the area are flamingos, pelicans, cranes, reed warblers, hawks, starlings, spoonbills, kingfishers, partridges, terns, cattle egrets, great egrets, grey herons, and teals.
