The protest followed a government announcement made a day earlier, on Jan. 12, saying that dozens more political prisoners had been released after the US military intervention and the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro.
During the rally, families laid a Venezuelan flag on the ground and placed hundreds of photographs of detainees around it.
Protesters held posters bearing names and faces of political prisoners, demanding faster releases.
