Man protests to fix Britain's roads - by filling pothole with bowling pins
A man has protested to fix Britain's roads - by filling a giant pothole with bowling pins.
Ben Thornbury, 20, filled the hole with six pins today (14/1 ) to highlight the problem on the country's roads.
With National Pothole Day tomorrow, Ben set up a game of bowling titled 'The Great British Bowl-Off Edition (Road Edition)'.
It's not the first time Ben has got creative - previously making a golf course out of potholes and even 'fishing' in them.
He has even filled a pothole with baked beans.
Footage shows people in the middle of the road in Malmesbury, Wiltshire giving the game a try and attempting a strike.
Per the rules, if the ball goes in the hole and knocks the pins, players have "beaten" the road. "
Ben, a web developer from Malmesbury, Wilts, said:" I came up with the idea because I thought what could really work well in a pothole and I thought who doesn't love a game of bowling just before National Pothole Day."
"The potholes here on Michael's Pyms Road, have been there for months. "
"They were going to patch repair them four months ago but it still hasn't happened yet. "
"These are quite deep and long in length, due to the rain they have got worse."
"Due to the recent bad weather, lots have now appeared. There are some big ones on Tetbury Hill outside Dyson headquarters."
"Wiltshire Council were given a green status on the new government Pothole map but judging by the response on social media, I don't think too many people agree."
"In parts of Malmesbury now, roads have had a resurface which seems to be the best method for fixing them, not patch repair. But rains tends to get to them."
Ben launched a petition to call on the government to make a national plan and have a dedicated pothole repair fund.
The petition says: "We feel that residents are fed up with facing endless repair bills for tyres, wheels, and suspensions damaged by crumbling roads, and that it is also a serious safety concern."
