Drone footage shows captured Russian vessel anchored off the coast of Scotland
Drone footage shows a Russian oil tanker anchored off the coast of Scotland after being seized by the US.
The Russian-flagged vessel, The Marinera, was captured by the US in the North Atlantic last week.
The operation was aided by the UK's armed forces - who provided a Royal Navy ship and British air surveillance but did not board the ship.
The oil tanker is allegedly part of a shadow fleet used by Russia, Iran and Venezuela to avoid sanctions.
The ship was not found to be carrying any oil when it was captured but has previously carried Venezuelan crude oil.
Drone footage on Wednesday (14/01) shows the tanker flanked by a US Coast Guard vessel.
Andrew McKenzie, 40, lives just a stone's throw from Burghead, on the Moray coast, where the vessel is anchored off and captured the footage.
He said: "I noticed it yesterday coming up but I didn't realise it was the tanker."
"But it's there as it's positioned strongly near the RAF based at Lossiemouth."
"I'm not too surprised it's there."
"I think it will be there for a while."
The vessel was previously sanctioned by the US over accusations that it was carrying Iranian oil.
Previously known as the Bella 1, it had been trying to avoid a US-imposed naval blockade near Venezuela.
