4. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) FORCIBLY DISPLACED PALESTINIAN ATEF SELIM, SAYING:

“By God, there is no insight or solution to be seen with this displacement anywhere in the world — not just here, but everywhere. This displacement… settlers come and take the sheep, they humiliate people, they break into houses. They act with total recklessness; no one stops them, no matter where they come from or where they are going. So many people have gone to complain, and the foundations of the community are terrified. They carry out operations like this for no reason; there is no way to stop it at all. And as you can see, the last thing they did was take the sheep from us. They came and seized them and took them away, and after that, people began to leave the land.”

6. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) FORCIBLY DISPLACED PALESTINIAN ATEF SELIM, SAYING:

“By God’s people, they entered… they destroyed the house yesterday while we were here. They broke in on small children — maybe five and four years old — while they were sleeping, and they took them. The army is stationed there, and when people tried to resist, the army didn’t care. Only the army is there, and within just a few seconds they pass through; it’s not just a little — it’s a lot. Life has become unimaginably difficult. They even block the water. They prevent cars from passing; they won’t let them reach the people. They didn’t even allow supplies to get through to those people…”

8. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) FORCIBLY DISPLACED PALESTINIAN ATEF SELIM, SAYING:

“None of the people were left in place. We went to them, knocked on doors, but there was no use — they never responded. There was no solution left for us. The only option was to leave, as you can see. People are being displaced, and whoever doesn’t leave is forced out. They don’t let a single person remain. Look at the mountains — everything you see before your eyes. I wish you could see the whole area of Al-Hamra; it is now completely empty.”

10. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) FORCIBLY DISPLACED PALESTINIAN ATEF SELIM, SAYING:

“How could it not break your heart? What you’re saying pierces our hearts. There is no power and no strength to stop this. As a human being, you build your future over many years, with effort and dignity — and then in just one day, everything is destroyed. How could that not hurt you? Your neighbor, who lived beside you — with no law and no justice — becomes your executioner. Of course it hurts deeply.”

14. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) FORCIBLY DISPLACED PALESTINIAN HAYSEM SELIM, SAYING:

“What is happening, as you can see with your own eyes, is that settlers have been harassing this community for the past two years. Over the last ten days, the situation escalated, and people here began to leave. About 120 families were living in this community.”

15. WHITE FLASH

16. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) FORCIBLY DISPLACED PALESTINIAN HAYSEM SELIM, SAYING:

“For us, leaving is absolutely not an option at this stage. We have reduced some of our goods — that is true — but the families are still here. We are trying to hold on a little longer, hoping the situation might ease, even though the settlers, as you can see, are surrounding us and trying to force displacement by increasing pressure on us and our neighbors, precisely because we are among those who have no intention of leaving.”

17. WHITE FLASH

18. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) FORCIBLY DISPLACED PALESTINIAN HAYSEM SELIM, SAYING:

“What is happening is, of course, a new Nakba. We heard about the Palestinian Nakba of 1948; we studied it in books. We heard about the Naksa of 1967. But now, in 2026, we are living through this ourselves. The Nakba is happening daily across Palestinian Bedouin communities. About 750 people are being displaced from these areas — areas taken over openly through grazing settlements. This is not only about land; it is about an entire Bedouin community. We have been struggling for two years without any result.”

20. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) FORCIBLY DISPLACED PALESTINIAN HAYSEM SELIM, SAYING:

“I want to leave, but where would I go? There is no land to move to, no place to settle. There is no electricity, no water, no infrastructure, no roads, no schools, no basic services. How are we supposed to begin a new life? We have daughters, young women, families. How are we supposed to start again?”

22. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) FORCIBLY DISPLACED PALESTINIAN HAYSEM SELIM, SAYING:

“This means the Israeli occupation authorities are encouraging settlers to take over these lands. Before 2010, they used house demolitions, land confiscations, and restrictions on grazing against us, but those methods did not succeed. When settlers began targeting people’s very source of livelihood, that is when the situation changed.”

24. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) FORCIBLY DISPLACED PALESTINIAN HAYSEM SELIM, SAYING:

“When they come at night, they beat children and women without even speaking to them. There are arrests carried out by the army. Over the past ten days, the pressure has been unreal — completely unbearable. As you can see, the settlers are right behind us. The pressure is not normal at all. In the end, they tell you the army will make your life impossible until you leave. They say, ‘Leave — it’s your choice.’ By God, it is not my choice. I swear it is no one’s choice. After a person’s life is stripped of dignity, what is left? We are forced to live in uncertainty, not knowing where to go or what awaits us.”

The crisis escalated in May 2024 when settlers established a livestock outpost near al-Auja Spring, close to a Bedouin community. Palestinian residents say the move was designed to seize control of the area and cut off access to a critical water source.

"The settler, who owns a flock of sheep, occupied the area around the spring and prevented farmers and shepherds from using the water," local Palestinians told Anadolu. They described the actions as part of a systematic effort to forcibly displace them from their land with official Israeli backing.

Al-Auja Spring, located in the eastern Jordan Valley, is one of the region's most vital water sources and is particularly important during summer months due to its abundant supply.

In December 2025, Israel's far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich shared footage from the Ras al-Ayn area of al-Auja, expressing support for the settlers. He praised the occupation of Palestinian land and water wells, calling it "a great job."

In northern Jericho, Palestinian Bedouin families are now dismantling their tents and metal shelters, loading their belongings onto trucks as they prepare to leave with uncertain futures ahead.
Atef Selim, one of those forcibly displaced, described the ordeal to Anadolu. "Settlers come and take the sheep, they humiliate people, they break into houses. They act with total recklessness; no one stops them," he said.

"They even took sheep from us. After that, people began to leave the land. They destroyed the house while we were here. They broke in on small children—maybe five and four years old—while they were sleeping," Selim continued.

He said the army was present but did nothing to stop the attacks. "Life has become unimaginably difficult. They even block the water. They prevent cars from passing."

"As a human being, you build your future over many years—and then within just one day they destroy everything. Your neighbor becomes your executioner," Selim added.

Haysem Selim, another resident, said settlers have been harassing the community for two years, with the situation dramatically worsening over the past 10 days.

"About 120 families were living in this community. We are trying to hold on for a little longer, hoping the situation might ease, even though the settlers are surrounding us and trying to force displacement," he said.

"What is happening is, of course, a new Nakba. We heard about the Palestinian Nakba of 1948 in books. But now, in 2026, we are living through this phase ourselves. The Nakba is happening daily across all Palestinian Bedouin communities," Haysem stated.

He described approximately 750 people being displaced from areas taken over through what he called "grazing settlements."

"I want to leave, but where would I go? There is no land for us to move to, no electricity, no water, no infrastructure, no roads, no schools. How are we supposed to begin a new life?" he asked.

"When settlers began targeting your very source of livelihood, that is when the situation changed. When they come at night, they beat the children and beat the women. Over the past 10 days, the pressure has been unbearable," Haysem added.

Since Israel's Gaza offensive began in October 2023, settler attacks in the West Bank have intensified, with 4,723 incidents recorded throughout 2025 that killed 14 Palestinians and displaced 1,090 people from 13 Bedouin communities, according to the PLO-affiliated Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission.

Approximately 770,000 Israeli settlers were living in the West Bank as of late 2024. The UN considers all Israeli settlements in Palestinian territories illegal under international law and has called for their immediate cessation.
