A rare algae bloom left tourists baffled as it covered a beach in Thailand.

The yearly phenomenon stunned visitors as they flocked to Bali Hai Cape in Pattaya to see the lush carpets of green algal growth near the shore.

Footage shows tourists taking selfies as they walked on the meadow-like scenery bathed in gold sunlight, on January 17.

The algae bloom occurs when the tide recedes, allowing blankets of algae to flourish on exposed rocks on the beach.

It happens around once or twice a year and lasts for around two weeks before the green algae die.

The fleeting event attracts photography enthusiasts and tourists to the area, boosting tourism in Pattaya.
