13. ROYAL FAMILIES ATTENDING AT FUNERAL CEREMONY (TWO SHOTS) ATHENS, GREECE - JAN. 19, 2026: A funeral ceremony was held on Monday, Jan. 19, at the Metropolitan Cathedral in the Greek capital, Athens, for Princess Irene of Greece and Denmark.
The princess’s coffin, draped in the Greek flag, was brought to the Metropolitan Cathedral, where it lay in state and was viewed by mourners before the service.
The funeral was attended by members of the former Greek and Spanish royal families, including King Felipe VI of Spain, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, as well as other European royals.
Princess Irene passed away at the age of 83, on Jan. 15, 2026, at the Zarzuela Palace in Madrid, Spain, where she had lived for decades with her sister, former Queen Sofia of Spain.
