Dramatic eyewitness footage shows the moment a moped gang raided a Rolex store in one of London's most exclusive areas - in broad daylight.

A Bucherer shop specialising in Rolex watches in swanky Knightsbridge was targeted by a group of six alleged armed robbers earlier this week (Tues).

The riders, who can be seen in all black and motorcycle helmets, stole multiple items and threatened staff and members of the public with weapons, the Metropolitan Police said.

Footage shows the group running into the store - as members of the public seemingly stroll on by.

A 20-year-old man - who wishes to remain anonymous for his safety - says that he believes one of the six was wielding a machete.

The witness, who was working across the street, says he believes the watches stolen from the Bucherer Rolex Boutique just before 11am were worth more than £200,000.

He said: "I was just coming out of my job and all of a sudden all these mopeds turned up and just smashed the store up and started robbing it. "

"There was one at the front with a machete throwing it around at people. I think one of the ladies inside was hit, but I am not sure how true that is. "

"They took about 22 watches in total. I think they were worth a couple hundred thousand. There was a big police presence of about 10 or 15 cars by the end of it. Armed police and everything. "

"I have seen all kinds of things in London but this is probably the craziest so far. It was a bit of a panic to film while watching it. It was definitely a bit of a breath taker."

The Met said: "Detectives are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery in Knightsbridge."

"We were called at 10:53hrs on Tuesday, 20 January, to reports of a robbery in progress at a shop on Knightsbridge. Officers were on the scene within minutes."

"Six suspects wearing motorcycle helmets attended the store, with a number entering and threatening staff and members of the public with weapons, including machetes. A moped was also used to enter the shop."

"The offenders made off on four mopeds after taking a number of high-value watches, leaving a stolen moped behind in the store."

"No injuries were reported."

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Mather from the Met's Flying Squad, who is leading the investigation, added: "This robbery was carried out in a busy part of London, and we understand the alarm it has caused. "

"The Flying Squad specialises in tracking down organised robbers who use violence and intimidation, and our officers are working to identify and arrest those responsible."

"Officers were on scene within minutes and investigators are working at pace to piece together the offenders' movements. We are determined to find those involved and bring them to justice as swiftly as possible."

Bucherer declined to comment.
