Trump Vows To Push Ahead With Greenland Tariffs. US President Donald Trump says he will “100 percent” carry out his threat to impose tariffs on European countries opposing his plan to take control of Greenland. European allies quickly rallied around Greenland’s sovereignty. Denmark insists the US cannot threaten its way to ownership of the semi-autonomous territory while UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper reiterates that Greenland’s future must be decided by Greenlanders and Denmark alone. Trump confirms the tariffs would hit goods from the UK and seven other NATO allies starting at 10 percent in February and rising to 25 percent by June, unless a deal is reached. Posting on Truth Social, Trump says he holds a “very good” call with NATO secretary general Mark Rutte and announces talks in Switzerland. Pressed on whether he would use force to seize Greenland, Trump declined to comment, but insists the tariffs will go ahead.
