Spain Mourns After Deadly High-Speed Train Collision. Spain has declared three days of national mourning after a devastating high-speed train crash killed at least 40 people in the south of the country. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez vowed a full and transparent investigation into why two trains collided near the town of Adamuz on Sunday evening. More than 120 others were injured when a Madrid-bound train derailed and crossed onto the opposite track, slamming into an oncoming service. Officials say the crash occurred on a straight stretch of line near Córdoba and is the deadliest rail disaster Spain has faced in over a decade. Rescue teams have been working through twisted wreckage to reach trapped passengers, with dozens still hospitalised, including several in intensive care. Transport authorities describe the incident as highly unusual, as early reports point to a possible rail fault, though investigators say conclusions could take weeks. High-speed rail links across southern Spain remain suspended as the country comes to terms with the tragedy.
