STORYLINE:

SOUNDBITE 1 (Indonesian): WAWA SETIAWAN, Trainee driver of Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway
"A high-speed railway in Indonesia? Am I driving a train that runs at 350 km/h? At first, these combinations sounded, well, not totally ridiculous, but still unimaginable. But now, it's all come true."

Since becoming a train driver in 2013, Wawa Setiawan had harbored a dream of operating a high-speed train in his home country, Indonesia.

In 2016, as China and Indonesia kicked off the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway project, he felt that he was one step closer to turning that dream into reality.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Indonesian): WAWA SETIAWAN, Trainee driver of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway
"I dreamed of being the first high-speed train driver in Indonesia.  01:52:18-02:00:12
I participated in the training courses in Madiun. Technology, operation, safety methods, everything I learn is new and exciting.
I studied hard and did my best to ensure that I could pass and become one of the first high-speed train drivers in Indonesia and in Southeast Asia.
I did pass. When I got the message, I felt proud and the responsibility on my shoulders."

As one of the candidates for driving the high-speed train, Setiawan began hands-on training with his Chinese instructors in August this year.

SOUNDBITE 3 (Indonesian): WAWA SETIAWAN, Trainee driver of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway
"This is a very big responsibility that I must carry out with full responsibility and discipline and must always focus when driving this train. Now we are going through the No. 2 Tunnel. The total length of the tunnel is 1,052 meters. It is the most difficult tunnel to build."

SOUNDBITE 4 (Indonesian): WAWA SETIAWAN, Trainee driver of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway
"If life is a train that runs on a track, then my life just got sped up, super fast, super exciting, and full of hope."
