Mersea Island Strood on highest tide of the year

Buy video

The footage was taken to try to catch drivers taking the risk of crossing the strood causeway whilst flooded with a large high tide. The tide floods the road approximately 1 week every month, although during November the tides were very high. The footage shows how many motorists are willing to risk getting stuck and being stranded by driving through up to 3 feet of sea water! And in one case, a car does break down and becomes stranded. When this happens the life guard and fire brigade attend to rescue the occupants, which is a waste of emergency services time!
