Dramatic footage from China of a 40-year-old bridge plummeting into a river when it was demolished on Wednesday (August 30).

The video, which was filmed in Chongqing, shows the Yujiang Bridge being demolished by explosives in just one second and then falling into the Yu river with a huge splash.

According to local media, 10-thousand local residents were temporarily evacuated from the surrounding area.

Local authorities decided the bridge was unsafe and are working to replace it.

In the video, captured in Chongqing on August 30, 1.5 tonnes of explosives are used to bring the bridge down in a second, sending a plume of debris and dust into the air.

According to local news, 10,000 residents were temporarily transferred for the demolition.

While, a news bridge will be built to replace the old one.
