Unlikely friendship spotted between African Wild dogs and Hyenas
This video shows one of those rare and unusual moments in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. Two great enemies of the African bush, relaxing together like they have been friends forever. African wild dog are the most successful hunters in Africa. Hyenas on the other hand are the top predators together with lions. Hyenas are known to steal food from wild dogs all the time. They are much bigger and stronger than wild dogs and easily overpower them when it comes to food. For that reason wild dogs never tolerate their presence. They would either run away or harass the hyenas when they outnumber them. To see two hyenas relaxing together with a whole pack of wild dogs is truly a unique sight. The only explanation we can think of for this behaviour, is that at this particular time there was no food involved. In saying that, many things in this behaviour still do not make sense to us and there are many unanswered questions in regards to this behaviour. Still great to see that these guys can actually be friends if they want to.
