Friendly bird provides crucial cleaning service to giraffe

This video shows one of the most fascinating friendships between two different species of animals in the African wild. The Oxpecker bird is probably the most useful bird on the continent. Here we can see how the bird helps the giraffe to get rid of parasites and ticks, especially in those hard to reach places. It became rather comical at the end of the video. The bird realizes that feeding around these places can also become a little tricky. The bird and the giraffe are both involved in a win-win relationship known as mutualistic symbiosis. Firstly the bird helps clean the giraffe from blood sucking ticks. Blood loss in mammals through tick infestation is detrimental to their condition and even survival. In return, the Oxpecker birds enjoy a whole feast and almost unlimited supply of food. Great to see how Mother Nature has a plan and reason for every relationship in the wild.
