This is the moment an extremely rare Sumatran tiger is sedated and carried away for treatment in Indonesia.

Video shows conservation officers giving water to the tiger that has been trapped in a cage in Agam, West Sumatra.

The two-year-old tiger, named "Sopi Rantang" according to local authorities, had caused concern among local villagers after reportedly attacking dogs in the area.

The animal is sedated using a blow-dart and the cage is loaded into the truck.

The animal was then taken to the Dharmasraya Sumatran Tiger Rehabilitation Centre where its condition will be assessed, according to the filmer.

There are only 400 Sumatran tigers left in the world, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

The video was filmed on April 14.

Indonesia's conservation agency evacuated a critically endangered Sumatran tiger trapped in Agam, West Sumatra.

Before being evacuated from the forest, the officer first bathed and gave the tiger a drink by spraying water from outside the cage. Then, the team of vets gave vitamins and sedatives to reduce tiger aggresiveness.

These tigers enter the trap set BKSDA officers on Saturday (April 14, 2018) because the tiger was accused of attacking dogs and local citrus farmers were concerned they could be next.

If the tiger's health condition improves and the medical team has considered it worth releasing, the Indonesia's conservation agency will return Sopi Rantang to its original habitat in the Palupuah forest or to another conservation forest deemed feasible.

There are only around 400 Sumatran tigers left in the world, meaning it is on the brink of extinction, according to the World Wildlife Fund.

Other threats to these big cats include habitat loss due to plantations and the depletion of their natural prey.
