A state of emergency was declared in Madison on Tuesday, August 21 after more than 11 inches (28 centimeters) of rain fell the day before and overnight.

This video, shared with Newsflare by Katy Brunette, shows part of a street still flooded on Greenway Boulevard in Middleton, with some cars left stranded.

According to the weather service, the downpour broke a Wisconsin record for most rainfall in a 24-hour period, forcing evacuations and downing power across cities. The governor issued a state of emergency in the state's capital.

The worst of the weather seemed to have passed by midday Tuesday, with the forecast calling for dry conditions Tuesday night and sunshine on Wednesday and Thursday.
