The beautiful and serene moment is captured when an open-billed stork is seen right at the break of dawn in a glorious golden backdrop in front of a lake at Kruger National Park, South Africa on Thursday (August 22).

It was early morning before sunrise when we head out on a safari in the Kruger National Park. We were heading to a nearby river to film the sunrise. We arrived at our favorite spot and set up our gear. While waiting for the sun to rise, my eye caught the silhouette figure of a large bird at the edger of the water. The first light of the day already created a golden reflection on the calm water, with everything else still seen in black. This created the opportunity for stunning silhouette photos and video. The bird was identified as an open billed stork. We could clearly see the gap between its mandibles. This unusual bill is well adapted to their feeding behavior. These birds feed mainly on large aquatic snails and fresh water mussels, and this type of bill is useful to extract the flesh from the shell. The stork was slowly moving along the edge of the water, creating a truly beautiful scene while the sounds of the morning chorus added to a incredibly serene morning in the African bush.
