At least 20 people are reported to have died in blasts at an Indian chemical factory.

Sources said as many as 50 people were injured, with dozens more feared trapped inside.

The blast took place on 31 August in Waghadi village, in Dhule district of Maharashtra in western India.

Locals said the explosions were felt as tremors in nearby villages. Meanwhile authorities say smoke billowing from the facility could be toxic.

Reports said nearly 100 workers were inside when the blasts began.

Visual showed huge black smoke billiowing from the facility.

A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been rushed to the site.

Witnesses said the blast was so intense that tremors were felt by neighbouring villages.

Meanwhile, authorities said the smoke billowing from the facility could be hazardous and may endanger the lives of others in the vicinity.

Reports said nearly 100 workers were present inside the facilty at the time of the blast.

While the injured were rushed to sub-district hospital, those who were critical were moved to a private facility.

Primary investigation has hinted at cylinder blast as the cause of the explosion.
