This is the catastrophic moment an air ambulance crashed into a hotel yesterday (September 1) killing nine people on board.

The Beechcraft King Air 350 was carrying doctors, a male patient, and the patient’s wife. They were flying from Dipolog City, southern Philippines, to a hospital in Manila.

But the aircraft was seen with smoke pouring from the tail as it plunged towards a mountain in Cabuyao City just after 3 pm local time.

The plane then smashed into a hotel resort and burst into flames. Two people on the ground were injured while all those onboard the medical evacuation plane were killed.

The fatalities were identified as the pilot, Captain Jesus Hernandez, First Officer Lino Cruz Jr., Dr Garret Garcia, nurse Kirk Eoin Badilla, nurse Yamato Togawa, Ryx Gil Laput, Raymond Bulacja, patient Tom Carr and his wife Erma.

Lieutenant Colonel Jacinto Malinaof from Calamba City police said the nine victims were burnt beyond recognition.

The plane first hit a resort in Pansol, Calamba City which started a blaze that caught nearby residential houses. Two of the resort's caretakers, Malou Roca, 49, and her son John Rey Roca, 19, were taken to the JP Rizal hospital after sustaining injuries from the fire.

The crash happened during the monsoon season when there were fewer tourists visiting Pansol for its beaches and hot springs.

Laguna police chief Colonel Eleazar Mata said: "The rains was very heavy that time. It's also very difficult to provide a report because at the time, the rain was intense."

Residents reported that the aircraft circled over the area for almost 30 minutes before it plummeted.

Philippine Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Center said it received an Emergency Locator Transmitter alert from the satellite-aided search and rescue initiative Corpas-Sarsat near Pansol, Laguna.

Lieutenant Colonel Chitadel Gaoiran, Calabarzon police spokesman said an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
