A light aircraft with two people onboard crashed in Malaysia this afternoon.

The Blackshape Gabriel BK160TR operated by Singaporean firm Aviation Safety Technology had departed from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang at 1:28 pm for a recreational flight.

However, it plunged to the ground near the village of Kampung Batu Belah in Kapar, Selangor, shortly before 2 pm local time.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department reported that the light aircraft caught fire before the crash. They said a distress call was received at 1.56 pm and firefighters arrived at the scene at approximately 2.20 pm.

The two people onboard were still missing as firemen searched through the wreckage.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) said: 'A team from the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department and the police are at the scene.'

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
