Residents of a town in South Africa's Western Cape are demanding government action following the murder of a 10-year-old Mitchells Plain girl, who was caught in gang crossfire.

The girl, Ayesha Kelly, was killed in Tafelsig on Sunday evening.

Local citizen Shamieg George, speaking in Afrikaans, said children are not afraid of military personnel wielding weapons because they see gangsters doing the same thing on a daily basis. He pleads for the government to take action and claimed army units leave the area when shooting starts.

Also interviewed are community worker Liezl Manuel of Mitchells Plain and Bheki Cele, police minister.

The footage was captured on Thursday (December 12.)
