Former leader of the Democratic Alliance, Mmusi Maimane, spoke about why he went into politics, at a Cape Town Press Club luncheon held at the Kelvin Grove Club in Newlands.

Maimaine resigned as leader of the Democratic Alliance in October last year after former leader Helen Zille was elected as the head of the party’s federal council.

Herman Mashaba, then Mayor of Johannesburg, also resigned a few days after Maimaine, citing differences with Helen Zille.

Since then Maimane has launched a new movement called MOSA (Movement for One South Africa). The movement is founded on the principles of the Freedom Charter, and wants to focus on youth and future oriented leadership.
