Amazing footage shows moth caterpillars forming a long chain to resemble a snake in Costa Rica.

Insect Enthusiast Delmer Vasquez spotted the crawlers in his backyard in Palmares de Alajuela City on July 29.

He said: "I was surprised because it looked like a snake to me when I saw them from afar.

"We always have caterpillars in the backyard garden but I am curious why they are moving in a group like this. It was the first time that I saw it."

The phenomenon is called "caterpillar procession" done by the insects to look bigger and avoid predators, who are intimated by the larger size.
