A colourful cup moth caterpillar was seen crawling on a pipe in a family's yard in Myanmar.

Footage shows the spiky neon green creature inching its way across the PVC pipe in Yangon on July 12. It moved across the structure between the line of black ants.

Resident Khan Khan said: ‘I wondered what it was. I asked my friends what it was and they told me not to touch it because it is extremely itchy in the skin.'

The cup moth or Limacodidae moth caterpillar has stinging, urticating hairs that can create a severe reaction when put in contact with skin.

Most of them are often liberally covered in protective stinging hairs. They are mostly tropical but occur worldwide.
