Typhoon Haishen batters the coast of Okinawa, Japan, with strong waves this morning (September 6th).

Hundreds of thousands of residents have been evacuated from their homes as the typhoon moves towards the southwest of the country with winds of 195 kph (121 mph) and gusts of up to 240 kph (149 mph). Officials said it is the strength of a category three hurricane.

The typhoon brought strong winds, heavy rain and rough seas.
Thousands of homes lost power after electricity posts and substations were affected.

The torrential weather comes just a week after Typhoon Maysak slammed into the country and moved north towards South Korea and North Korea.
