Annual sonar survey of the one of the UK's most dangerous shipwrecks in Kent

On a calm but very foggy morning (September 21) the survey vessel 'EGS Watchful' can be seen in this footage undertaking the annual multi-beam sonar survey of probably the UK's most dangerous shipwreck - the SS Richard Montgomery - which sank in 1944 with 1400 tonnes of munitions still onboard.

The survey for HM Coastguard only checks the condition of the hull (and does not taken into account the condition of the bombs). The shipwreck lies 1.5 miles north of Sheerness close to the Medway Approach and Thames shipping channels.
