About 200 people gathered outside the Parliament of South Africa in Cape Town on Saturday (November 28) to protest against gender-based violence.

Every year the country has a 16 days of activism campaign to combat violence against women and children, which starts on 25 November.

South Africa has one of the highest rates of rape, murder and gender-based violence in the world.

In September 2019, a series of femicide killings sparked the #AMINEXT protests which rocked the country and forced President Cyril Ramaphosa to declare a national state of emergency to combat gender-based violence.
