Thousands protest against French bill that would ban filming police officers
Around 5,000 people gathered in Nantes, France, on Friday (27 November) against a new security bill that could ban filming police officers.
People marched through the streets and raised their phones to denounce the bill, which would criminalise the publication of images of on-duty police officers with the intent of harming their "physical or psychological integrity".
The bill has passed its first reading in the lower house of parliament but recent publication of video showing French police beating then tear-gassing a Black man, has increased pressure against the bill, prompting the government to say it will review its wording.
Some local media said that up to 12,000 people joined the protest in Nantes on Friday, despite the lockdown.
Police later fired tear gas at protesters.
