This was the moment a farmer kneeled to pray after over half of their chickens froze to death during a sudden cold snap in eastern China.

In the video filmed on December 29, a female farmer was spotted kneeling and praying in from of a hennery of which the roof was blown inside out by the strong wind.

A large number of chicks were frozen to death by the wind and snow.

The farmer's son and also the farm owner Mr Ma said in the video that: "It could be hard to do anything but it’s okay to start all over again.” He added that his mother could get very depressed about the loss.

The hennery was just built for over a month and raised 16,000 chickens.

The loss was estimated to over 100,000 yuan ($15392).

It was reported that the temperature dropped sharply since the cold wave came.

On December 28, the Central Meteorological Observatory issued the highest-level cold wave warning.

This is the first national-level cold wave warning since 2016.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
