A dramatic video has emerged from Canada of a skier triggering an avalanche and managing to safely ride it out.

In the footage, captured by Ritchie Nagle on a helmet-mounted camera in Banff National Park on Sunday, the snowpack can be seen shifting dangerously beneath his skis on an off-piste trail.

Amazingly, keen skier Nagle manages to stay upright on the moving snow and makes it safely to the bottom of the slope.

"I pointed my skis down the mountain and managed to stay upright until I outran the slide and terrain levelled off," Nagle later wrote online.
