A university successfully issued an early warning of a massive loess landslide, avoiding casualties in northwestern China.

The video, filmed in the county of Yongjing in Gansu Province on January 27, shows around100,000-cubic-metre loess collapsing.

Another clip shows a drone throwing a detective device onto the loess area.

The detective device was able to recognise millimetre-sized landslide displacement to help issue an accurate warning.

Since the warning was issued six hours before the landslide happened, all nearby people were already evacuated.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
