A dramatic video has emerged from China of a window cleaning platform, holding two workers, spinning out of control and repeatedly smashing into the side of China’s second-tallest building.

The footage was captured by a diner in a restaurant on the 100th floor of the 492 metre-tall Shanghai World Financial Centre on Thursday morning.

It shows the platform swinging violently back and forth and smashing into the glass windows at high speed.

According to news reports, two pieces of curtain wall on the 91st and 92nd floors were broken as a result of the impacts and the two window cleaners were treated in hospital with minor bruises.

The exact cause of the incident is still being investigated.
