4 dead after several people fall into 40-feet deep well to rescue minor boy in central India

A spine-chilling incident came to light in which four people drowned inside the 40-feet deep well in central India's Madhya Pradesh on July 15. The incident took place in Ganj Basoda in the Vidisha district.

Visuals feature the officials arriving at the spot to begin a search and rescue operation to save the souls stranded inside the deep well. In the meantime, a panic-stricken crowd gathers in the vicinity to help in the process, leading to a commotion. However, they manage to rescue some while footwear and personal belongings floated on the surface of the water, ensuing fear among those beholding the occurrence. By the morning, the rescuers use an excavator to dig out a large portion of the land to provide a safe passage for the victims.

The crowd of 25 to 30 people rushed towards the well to rescue a 16-year-old boy named Sandeep Parihar, who slipped inside while drawing water. As the word spread like wildfire, more people gathered to the spot, following which the concrete slab around the well collapsed due to the pressure of all the weights, dragging several of them inside it.

Fear gripped the locals after the incident, and they tried their level best to rescue the victims, but sheer darkness made the process way too impossible. However, the cops were alerted, and they rushed to the spot to begin the rescue operations. Meanwhile, the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and National Disaster Management Force (NDRF) team reached fully equipped to help in the process while the darkness made things hard for them, as an inspector and a home guard also fell into the well, but were rescued.

Besides, the rescuers were draining the well with the hope of locating the victims stranded inside while the Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh (USD 6,700) each for the family of the deceased and compensation of Rs. 50,000 (USD 670) each to the kin of the injured. Moreover, 20 people have been rescued so far while five of them have been admitted to the hospital.
