An aluminium factory in China exploded this morning (July 20) after floodwater from a nearby river mixed with chemicals.

Emergency services rushed to the blaze Dengfeng Power Group Co Ltd in China's central Henan province shortly after 6 am local time.

Authorities believe that heavy rain caused a nearby river to burst its banks and water gushed into the factory causing a wall to collapse before the flood water interacted with a solution in a tank causing the explosion.

The company had reportedly already evacuated the facility before the incident. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, but they remain possible.
